Palitz Gallery Hosts Margie Hughto and Friends

    Dec 3, 2015

The vivid works in clay currently on display in the exhibition Painting in Clay: The Fired Landscapes of Margie Hughto seemed to come to life on the walls of the Palitz Gallery as a group of art aficionados, which included former students of the Syracuse University professor, gathered for a reception to celebrate the opening of the exhibition.

Painting in Clay: The Fired Landscapes of Margie Hughto is the artist’s first retrospective exhibition and includes a selection of new works as well as examples from her major public commissions and the nationally recognized project New Works in Clay. A study for Trade, Treasure and Travel, which resides at the Cortlandt Street NYC subway station, will also be on display. Attendees experienced Hughto's immense and immersive Setting Sun installation which has never before been displayed.

Hughto walked the guests through the exhibition, explaining her creative process and the travails of transporting finished works which can be quite challenging due to their weight.

There will be another opportunity to meet Hughto on February 3 when she participates in a special lecture with the Director of the MTA's award-winning public art program. More details will be posted as the date approaches. For now check out photos from the December 1 reception on our Facebook page
