SU Alumni Attend Broadway Hit "Come From Away"

    April 26, 2017

Come From AwayFor yet another show, SU Alumni were able to receive a one of a kind experience at one of Broadway’s hottest shows.

The most recent showing was ”Come From Away”, a show that gained national attention when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attended with Ivanka Trump in March. Written by Canadians Irene Sankoff and David Hein, this is the stunning production from Tony nominated director Christopher Ashley (Memphis) that the Los Angeles Times calls “an affecting and stirring new musical.”

In a heartbeat, 38 planes with 6,579 passengers were stranded in a remote town in Newfoundland. The locals opened their hearts and homes, hosting this international community of strangers– spurring unexpected camaraderie in extraordinary circumstances. The show was made possible by Jessica Genick ’89, Lauren & Kipp Stevens ’89, and Brian Spector ’78.

Alumni who attended the show were treated with a talk back after the show featuring authors Hein, Sankoff and other members of the company.

The Syracuse Broadway Series celebrates the University’s tradition of excellence in the theater. Whether as actors, musicians or working behind the scenes, SU alumni represent some of the most talented and successful members of the theater community in NYC and beyond.
