Grove Press: Strange Victories Panel Discussion
January 10, 2014
Loren Glass, author of Counter-Culture Colophon: Grove Press, the Evergreen Review, and the Incorporation of the Avant-Garde, moderated a panel discussion on December 12th at Lubin House with former employees of Grove Press, including: Judith Schmidt Douw, Fred Jordan, Claudia Menza, and Herman Graf.
The discussion took place in conjunction with Lubin House's current exhibition -- an exhibition that traces the history and evolution of Grove Press, from its role at the center of national censorship trials over the first American editions of Lady Chatterley's Lover and Tropic of Cancer to its ascension as one of the twentieth-century's great avant-garde publishing houses. Original letters, manuscripts, archival documents, book jackets and newspaper clippings are all included in this exhibition.
